Skin Care Tips for a Youthful Appearance

Youth and beauty are placed—in our society—with high regard. Not actually the young are revered, but people with a youthful appearance. Women—and more recently, men—are prepared to peruse the preponderance of skin care tips; with hopes to appear younger than their age.

Cosmetic surgery and other 'visual enhancement' procedures are becoming more common among regular 'every-day' people. Previously reserved only for the rich and famous, more and more insurance plans are allowing folks to receive skin care treatments. Also, it seems like more people are willing to fork over their own cash to have some sort of skin treatment done.

For those that don't want to be cut up like a sirloin at dinner time, there's a myriad of creams, lotions and potions available that purport to prevent premature aging. Some of these skin products actually claim to make wrinkles and fine lines, vanish. What do the experts say? Well, as you can imagine, skin care tips vary widely depending upon the expert with whom you ask.

It's your hide, so to speak. With that in mind: some of these skin care tips might actually help you achieve your desired results; others may just cost you some hard-earned cash. As far as skin care products go, some 'high-end' specialized ones may contain the same combination of ingredients as the cheaper products. Here's a tip: read the labels and pay attention to the advertising of products you're interested in. Advertising costs money. You could save up to 50% on your facial cleansers and anti-aging serums.

Now that I've just reached fifty, I've learned that I have to be much kinder to my facial skin than in my youth. You see, I started windsurfing in my teens and, by default, spent many hours in the sun. And, if there was a week or so of no wind, when I returned to the beach I'd get a sun burn on my face and—in summer (no wetsuit)—shoulders as well. Now, it's imperative that I take proactive skin care measures. One of the best skin care tips:

  • Use a quality sun screen, or…if you're into it, a moisturizer with sun blocker in it.

What is the body's largest organ? Hint: it shows with no clothes. Yes, your skin. So, keep your skin clean and moisturized and, right there, you'll help slow the sands of time. The not-so-obvious skin care tips involve relaxation and a product free lifestyle. Whatever path you choose, it's important to be consistent. As a reminder: remove your makeup before bedtime—a clean face equals open pores, which allows your skin to breath; keeping your youthful appearance a little bit longer.
